UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell went viral on Saturday after condemning pro war sentiment while Americans are struggling domestically. “I’m not going nowhere to fight none of these wars for these politicians,” Mitchell said at the UFC 272 pre-fight press conference. The Arkansas native added that he would die defending his home state if the U.S. were attacked and slammed the Biden family’s business dealing in Ukraine. Mitchell ultimately improved to 15-0 on Saturday after a dominant decision win over longtime UFC veteran Edson Barboza.
When asked for his thoughts on the conflict in Ukraine, Mitchell said that he would not fight war over the Eastern European country while U.S. citizens are struggling. “I’m not going nowhere to fight none of these wars for these politicians,” Mitchell said. “I’m staying at home and when the war comes to Arkansas, I will dig my boots in the ground and I will die for everything I love.”
The UFC featherweight then said he believes the conflict is being oversimplified by U.S. politicians and media outlets. “I don’t know what’s going on, to be honest brother,” Mitchell said. “There’s so much stuff and I don’t think nobody knows what’s going on fully. There’s been so much political corruption in that area.”
Mitchell then slammed Joe Biden for his family’s business dealings in Ukraine. The current U.S. president has had numerous dealings with Ukraine over the last decade, as has his son Hunter. Hunter Biden received a lucrative job with the Ukrainian gas company Burisma despite having no qualifications for the position.
“You got Biden and his son making a sh** ton of money, using our tax dollars to bribe their people. That’s treasonous in my opinion,” Mitchell said. “So you got Biden and his son using our tax dollars saying, ‘hey, Ukrainian government if you don’t do this, we’re taking your tax dollars. He shouldn’t be giving our tax dollars to that country anyway.”
The undefeated fighter concluded his answer by saying he feels bad for innocent civilians in harm’s way. “Man I don’t like war. But I don’t know what’s going on, I think there’s so much stuff that’s corrupted, we just don’t know what’s truly going on over there. And I just pray all those people are safe.”
Mitchell improved to 15-0 after a dominant decision win over Edson Barboza at UFC 272. In his post-fight interview, the Arkansas native announced he would be donating half of his fight purse ($45,000) to children with medical conditions in his home state. UFC President Dana White later told Mitchell to keep his money and covered the donation out of his own pocket.
Bryce Mitchell has always used his platform to speak on political and social issues. In October 2020, he gave a passionate speech in which he condemned mask mandates and the effects of lockdowns on businesses in his home state. Mitchell recently stated that he would die before giving up his AR-15, prompting backlash from overwhelmingly left-leaning MMA journalists. The UFC featherweight also wants to fight Daily Show host Trevor Noah after the comedian trashed Canadian trucker protests.
