China’s Communist Party linked app, TikTok, has updated its privacy policy. It will now collect faceprints, voiceprints and biometric details of its Western users.
The company declared that,
“We may collect biometric identifiers and biometric information as defined under US laws, such as faceprints and voiceprints, from your User Content. Where required by law, we will seek any required permissions from you prior to any such collection.”
It is not clear whether the “US laws” refer to state or federal laws.
As only a few US states have biometric privacy laws, TikTok will collect the biometric details of most users without their consent.
But why did TikTok adopt such an intrusive “privacy” policy?
