"Saying that less than 10 percent of Covid transmission occurs outdoors is akin to saying that sharks attack fewer than 20,000 swimmers a year. (The actual worldwide number is around 150.) It’s both true and deceiving."
The pandemic times are fraught with confusion, with new studies claiming what was previously believed about Covid-19 as untrue. For instance, they are asserting that coronavirus is mainly transmitted through the air instead of surfaces. According to another claim, asymptomatic patients are responsible for lesser infections than those with symptoms.
The mainstream media has picked up these studies and are questioning their claims. The New York Times has called out the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) over its claim that “less than 10%” of Covid transmissions happen outdoors while it is less than 1% in reality!
David Leonhardt writes in The New York Times, "Saying that less than 10 percent of Covid transmission occurs outdoors is akin to saying that sharks attack fewer than 20,000 swimmers a year. (The actual worldwide number is around 150.) It’s both true and deceiving."
The CDC recommends the unvaccinated people wear a mask when outdoors while those who have received a shot should wear it at "large public venues."
As per the New York Times-
"These recommendations would be more grounded in science if anywhere close to 10 percent of Covid transmission were occurring outdoors. But it is not. There is not a single documented Covid infection anywhere in the world from casual outdoor interactions, such as walking past someone on a street or eating at a nearby table."
Should the recommendations not be more simple and easy to follow? Should we not include relevant data in our studies to arrive at a valid conclusion?
