Crisis! In April 2021, U.S. ICE reports the lowest number of alien deportations in recorded history

May 27, 2021

This historic low came to light despite the U.S. Customs and Border Protection recording illegal border crossings at over a 20-year high.

CBP apprehended that illegal border crossing by aliens reached a 172,000 mark in March alone with more than 1,000 “gotaways” crossing the Border Patrol in a day.

“CBP has experienced an increase in encounters and arrests. This is not new. Encounters have continued to increase since April 2020, and our past experiences have helped us be better prepared for the challenges we face this year,” said a CBP Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner.

This decrease in deportation numbers is due to the stringent measures and restrictions by the Biden Administration, placed on ICE this year. The restrictions reduced the deportation number by 20% after Biden ordered a 100-day moratorium on deportations.

The Biden Administration now does not allow to initiate an enforcement action without any preapproval from a superior. Despite limiting immigration enforcement, the Biden administration does not step back from blaming the alarming border crisis for poverty, climate, and violence in Central America.
